The Cove
I’m officially gagging to see this hot new documentary after being sent a link by Hong Kong Nancy, one of a group of our far eastern correspondents. Living in Japan I remember it being an almost yearly event in the press (the English language press) – the dolphin slaughter and the inevitable foreigner protest/war with the local ‘fishermen’. It’s time the word got out about this practice because, plainly, the rest of the world (whose opinion might be able to effect change in this barbaric practice) does not read the Daily Yomiuri or the Japan Times. It’ll be hard for Japan to deny this goes on now. And I somehow doubt the mock-horror faces the people in the street were displaying like “oh we had no idea this happened here” – I say horseshit. Everybody knows, the same as they know about the country’s annual illegal whale catch – more likely they just “know but not know” in that peculiar Japanese way.
